About

I created Just a Secular Homeschooler as your resource for all things homeschooling. Whether you’re trying to figure out the best math curriculum for your student or looking to learn more about different homeschooling styles, you will find support here. This is a blog dedicated to finding the best secular curriculum, sharing project ideas, and disseminating tips on how to balance homeschooling life with a career, marriage, and life outside of children.
My Homeschooling Journey
I started homeschooling my now-adult child 19 years ago when I was a single mom, following the classical method outlined in The Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer. While I found this method was a great way for educating my child, I discovered there was an absence of quality secular materials geared to the needs of homeschooling parents. In order to make up for this gap, I found myself creating my own curriculum to meet my student’s needs.
Now married, I’m the proud parent of five kids ranging from 5 to their twenties—each one teaching me something new about education, parenting, and life. My young adult graduated from public school and now works in higher education, while my focus has turned toward my 12, 10, 9, and 5-year-olds, whom I educate at home. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I’ve gained through homeschooling with other parents looking for a better way to educate their children.
